(\u0399\u03b1\u03ba. 5:13-16)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">No Novo Testamento, dois textos serviram de base para a institui\u00e7\u00e3o do mist\u00e9rio da Santa Un\u00e7\u00e3o: o ap\u00f3stolo Tiago, em sua ep\u00edstola, aponta que em caso de enfermidade deve-se recorrer \u00e0 ajuda de Deus e, de acordo com a Santa Tradi\u00e7\u00e3o, este texto \u00e9 plenamente compreendido como um mandamento recebido pela Igreja de Cristo: \u201cEst\u00e1 algu\u00e9m entre v\u00f3s doente? Chame os presb\u00edteros da igreja, e orem sobre ele, ungindo-o com azeite em nome do Senhor; e a ora\u00e7\u00e3o da f\u00e9 salvar\u00e1 o doente, e o Senhor o levantar\u00e1; e, se houver cometido pecados, ser-lhe-\u00e3o perdoados\u201d (Tiago 5:14,15).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O segundo texto das Escrituras que testifica a exist\u00eancia do mist\u00e9rio da Un\u00e7\u00e3o nos tempos apost\u00f3licos \u00e9 o Evangelho de S\u00e3o Marcos, que descreve a primeira miss\u00e3o apost\u00f3lica e seus feitos dizendo: &#8220;E, saindo eles, pregavam que se arrependessem. E expulsavam muitos dem\u00f4nios, e ungiam muitos enfermos com \u00f3leo, e os curavam\u201d (Marcos 6:12,13).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No tempo dos ap\u00f3stolos e de seus disc\u00edpulos imediatos, a Divina Liturgia era o cora\u00e7\u00e3o de todos os rituais e da vida espiritual dos primeiros crist\u00e3os. Ao oficiar a Liturgia, os crist\u00e3os dirigiam ao Senhor todas as suas necessidades, tristezas e alegrias; pedindo a b\u00ean\u00e7\u00e3o de Deus para a vida matrimonial, orando pelo repouso das almas dos entes falecidos de suas fam\u00edlias e amigos, pedindo por chuva ou sua cessa\u00e7\u00e3o, a cura dos enfermos f\u00edsicos e espirituais, pelos possessos etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Os protestantes com F. W. Puller afirmam que este mist\u00e9rio foi introduzido na Igreja apenas no s\u00e9culo XII, n\u00e3o reconhecendo sua exist~encia antes disso. Tal equ\u00edvoco pode ser justificado porque certas denomina\u00e7\u00f5es crist\u00e3s permitem-se p\u00f4r em ju\u00edzo a Santa Tradi\u00e7\u00e3o.
